It is my hope that future articles about bonsai display and books about bonsai display will spend more time about the complex marriage of tree/pot and stand. This marriage cannot and should not be ignored. The stand has always been a very intricate part of the display and it is time that we started treating the stand as part of the image rather than a costly accessory

I couldn't agree more Al.
You have made some very creative stands, I love some of the unusual designs you have incorporated, my favorite is the circular shohin stand, really elegant with simple clean lines. Close second is "Sold, black walnut" very nice.

I think we do indeed need to not only see and study the design of stands, but also learn more about the way to match a stand to the bonsai displayed as well. Attila Soos wrote an excellent article here ( on the role of a stand, I would love to see more like it.
Great gallery Al and certainly one of a kind!
